 What is Parents INC?

Parents INC is the first ADHD specific parent/carer training programme in Scotland and is highly regarded across the country.  Gordon Brown of ADHD Direct developed Parents INC following his experience of inviting parents and carers of ADHD children to attend routine parenting programmes that failed to meet their needs.

Parents INC is not a parenting programme.  Our belief is that the moment you invite parents to attend a 'parenting programme', you are suggesting that there is something inadequate about their parenting approach. This is a bit of a slur and very off puting for parents.

The aim of Parents INC is to help parents develop a better understaning of ADHD, how to help their children with their ADHD symptoms and development and if there are challenging aspects to their child's behaviour, to help them develop strategies and approaches that will be effective.

One of the most important aspects of Parents INC is to bring parents and carers of ADHD children together, so that maybe for the first time, they can speak with people who will understand exactly what they are describing without feeling they are being judged.

Although Parents INC has a format, the content and direction of the programme is very much determined by those parents and carers who attend.

Parents INC in other areas

Parents INC is being rolled out in other areas of Scotland including Forth Valley NHS and Fife NHS.

 Who is Parents INC for?

The programme has been developed specifically for parents and carers of children affected by ADHD.  Over time, what has also become apparent is that Grandparents, aunts & uncles and older siblings have also enjoyed the benefits from attending Parents INC.

Cost

The cost of Parents INC ranges from £150.00 - £200.00 for the 5 week programme.  The cost covers attendence for 5 weeks, course materials, cartificate of attendence and teas & coffees.

One booking (£200.00) gives 2 places, i.e. both parents, or one parent and grandparent, or 2 carers.  Families or services making more than one booking will pay £150.00 for subsequent bookings.
